Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Harnesses PhenoTips’ Genomic Health Record to Finalise 5 Year Strategy: Together We Care

Toronto, Canada: Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust have completed their “Together We Care” 5 year strategy by digitsing genomics at multiple geographically distinct hospitals with PhenoTips’ Genomic Health Record.

Built on the strong visions and values of the Trust, Guy’s and St Thomas’ “Together We Care” strategy centers on three primary priorities, Patients, People, and Partnerships, aiming to bolster patient autonomy, invest in staff, and harness technologies in collaboration with commercial partners. Guy’s and St Thomas’ implementation of PhenoTips’ Genomic Health Record on the final year of their 2018-2023 strategy completes the ambitious 5-year plan by empowering patients to take an active role in the collection of their data, streamlining staff and provider workflows, and establishing a framework for deep integration between the partner technologies supporting the Trust.

Putting Patients, People, and Partnerships at the forefront, PhenoTips’ Genomic Health Record (GHR) standardises, unifies, and digitises genomics at Guy’s Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital, two of the five hospitals that comprise the Trust. The GHR empowers patients to take an active role in their care with a digital Pre-visit Patient Questionnaire enabling patient-directed family and personal health history collection that automatically generates patient records and digital pedigree charts. Staff are supported by digital workflows that improve efficiency by recording patient data in discrete and future-forward formats such as the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO), with an intuitive, modern pedigree chart tool, and pedigree-embedded cancer risk assessment models like CanRisk. Supporting the Trust’s recent partnership with Epic, PhenoTips’ GHR is positioned for future integration with the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) that will further improve efficiency and advance genomic mainstreaming.

“It is always inspiring to work with Trusts like Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust who share our vision for a future in which patient data is unified, digitised, and usable, propelling genomic mainstreaming and with it the incredible bounds made possible in patient care and personalised, preventative medicine. We hope to continue working with Guy’s and St Thomas’ towards their goals as the NHS continues to lead the world in the integration of genomic medicine into routine clinical care,” said PhenoTips CEO Dr. Pawel Buczkowicz.
